SERVICES – AUTOMATED-LIGHTING DATA

Modern automated lighting controllers require certain data about the fixtures they are controlling. At its most basic this data is a mapping between features of the fixture and the DMX512 control protocol (eg. Pan control on channel 3, range 0 to 255). However it may also contain information about how particular control values relate to the real world (eg. Pan range is -270° to +270°; Colour slot 7 is red). A recent development is to calibrate certain features, particularly colour, so that programming can be stored and manipulated in generic terms that can be mapped to the same result on any fixture.

Carallon is launching a service for manufacturers within the industry to provide this fixture data on a subscription basis. The data is divided into a number of distinct sections allowing users of the service to subscribe only to the sections they require. Carallon will test and calibrate fixtures to ensure as far as possible that the data is accurate and will provide a library support service to all subscribers. The data will be made available to subscribers on fair and reasonable terms intended to make the service convenient and cost effective while protecting this valuable data resource.
